5th National "Canyoning festival" on Sundarijal waterfall

The 5th national "Canyoning festival-2019" was held at the waterfall of Syalmati River located at Sundarijal.

With the objective of promoting Nepal Tourism year-2020, Nepal Canyoning Association in collaboration with Nepal Tourism Board organized the program on Saturday.

According to the president of the organizing party, Rajendra Lama, 65 out of 100 participants participated in the festival.

If all the activists were to work together in making such programs a success, it would help a lot in promoting Nepal Tourism year 2020, Kul Bahadur Gurung, General Secretary of Nepal Mountaineering Association said to BL.

The organization, with the intention of developing Canoning in Nepal since 2008, organized the festival.

Sliding down the waves of water with the help of rope and a bit of bravery is known as Canyoning. People descend from the top of the waterfall all the way down to the bottom.

It is an adventurous game played with a rope by descending a waterfall with courage. According to the Nepal Canyoning Association, it has studied the possibility of Canoning in about four dozens waterfall in Nepal.

Sundarijal of Kathmandu, kakani of Nuwakot, Lwang and Ghalel of Kaski, Jambu, kabre, Handi, Galung and Fayangfung waterfall of Sindhupalchok, and Namaste waterfall of Dhankuta have been operating commercial Canyoning, according to Lama. In addition, Syanja, Manang, Dhading, Okhaldhunga and some waterfalls in the hill areas have Canyoning.

Yearly, 5000 people play the sport in Nepal. Of them, 90 percent of them are Nepalese.
