With the objectives of promoting and attracting the tourists in the Himalayan district Dolpa, the second Dolpo Festival will be held on 10-14 September, 2019 at the Dho-Tarap valley.The year 2019 also marks the 25th year anniversary Crystal Mountain School.
Located at an elevation of 1525 m to 7625 m above the sea level, Dolpa District is a multilingual, multidisciplinary and multicultural diverse tourist destination.
According to Gyalpo Thapa Bhote, Festival Coordinator the interactive program is organized to draw the government's attention towards development of basic infrastructure including roads, drinking water, electricity, communication in Dolpa. "The festival aims at making Nepal Tourism Year 2020 successful, thereby helping in promoting tourism in Dolpa through preserving the century-old cultural and natural heritage," Thapa Bhote told to BL news.
The religious, cultural and social life of the district will be displayed at the festival .
Similary, Jitendra Jhankri the president of Explore Dolpo Treks and Expeditions say Dolpo is ready to welcome both domestic and foreign tourists, the festival will further contribute in promoting Dolpo worldwide.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Dhan Bahadur Budha said as the nation is celebrating Visit Nepal 2020, the festival would be beneficial for promoting tourism of Dolpa district.
Addressing the program former Home Minister and lawmaker Janardan Sharma say, Dolpo Festival will play an important role in promoting tourism of Karnali region as a whole. "Dolpo being a center of tourism and herbal production, the region can be benefited economically through its right utilizations," he added.
Jag Bahadur Budha, a tourism entrepreneur & Chairman of Karnali Tourism Entrepreneurs Society (KTES) expressed the upcoming Dolpo Festival will helps to promote the Dolpo region in the national & international level.
The main attractions of the events are Dolpo cultural shows, Traditional Dolpo sports, Religious rituals and performances by Lamas, Arts and Books exhibition, Films & documentaries screening, Food festivals, music concerts, trekking and sightseeing and free health camp.
An interactive program was held in Kathmandu on Sunday on the eve of the Dolpo festival. Dolpo Buddha Rural municipality and Vision Dolpo are jointly organizing the festival in the Dhao-Tarap Valley. While, Chharkatangsong Rural Municipality and Shey-phoksundo rural municipality are co-organizer of the festival .
How to reach
The rural road track is connected to Dolpa via Rukum and Jajarkot. Due to absence of bridges, exchange of several jeeps are required to reach Dunai. Alternatively there is a 35 min flight connectivity from Nepalgunj to Juphal. From then onward it takes 3 days trek to reach Dho-Tarap, the event location. One can returns by trekking via crossing Numala and Bagala pass to Phoksundo lakes, from where it takes another two days trek to reach Dunai.
