2 staffs of the Russian Embassy killed in Kabul blast

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced Monday that two embassy personnel were murdered in an explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan's capital.

"On September 5, at 10:50 a.m. local time in Kabul, an unidentified insurgent detonated an explosive device at the consular section entrance to the Russian Embassy.

"As a result of the attack, two employees of the diplomatic mission were killed, there are also victims among Afghan citizens," the ministry stated in a statement.

The statement continued that the embassy is in regular contact with Afghan security forces investigating the event.

Earlier, Kabul police said a suicide bomber struck a gathering near the Russian Embassy, killing one and injuring ten others.

Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran stated on Twitter that security forces had cordoned off the area and begun investigating the explosion.

According to Afghan local media, a massive explosion occurred near the embassy in the Darul Aman neighborhood, southwest of Kabul.

Local officials have not yet provided details regarding the explosion.

According to residents, however, many individuals were present when the device detonated.

Recently, the Daesh/ISIS terrorist organization targeted the religious seminaries and mosques of the Taliban in Kabul and Afghanistan.
