According to witnesses, six people were killed after a Walmart manager opened fire at a shop in Virginia.

According to police, a seventh victim is thought to be the shooter.

Leo Kosinski, a police spokesman, said that the incident occurred in the city of Chesapeake shortly after 10 p.m. local time.

"Chesapeake Police confirm a fatal active shooter incident at the Sam's Circle Walmart. "The shooter dies," Chesapeake City tweeted.

Kevin Harper, a witness in a Walmart uniform, stated that he exited a staff room after the suspect, whom he identified as a store manager, entered and started the fire.

"It was crazy. It was a manager, he said during a Facebook Live broadcast from the site.

Nonetheless, I do not know how many of our colleagues we lost.

A lady informed WAVY-TV that her 20-year-old brother was shot 10 minutes after arriving at work.

Senator Louise Lucas wrote, "I am devastated that the latest mass shooting in America occurred tonight in a Walmart in my area in Chesapeake, Virginia.

"I will not rest until we find answers to solve this gun violence epidemic that has claimed so many lives in our country."

It was stated that Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in the nearby city of Norfolk, was treating five injured individuals.

Mr. Kosinski stated that authorities believe the gunshot occurred inside the store, but a body was discovered outside.

Mr. Kosinski noted that, to his knowledge, no rounds were fired by police.

He noted that the store was fairly vast and that there were numerous hiding spots for shoppers.

The Twitter account for the City of Chesapeake stated, "A family reunion facility has been established at the Chesapeake Conference Center" (700 Conference Center Drive). This site is restricted to intimate family and emergency contacts of anyone who may have been in the building."

"Sickened by reports of yet another mass shooting, this time at a Walmart in Chesapeake," tweeted Senator Mark Warner. I will attentively observe events."

Walmart Inc. expressed "horror" at the store's activities.

The organization wrote, "We are shocked by the unfortunate incident that occurred at our Chesapeake, Virginia location." "We are praying for everyone affected, for the community, and for our employees."

The Chesapeake Walmart is a "supercenter," meaning it sells groceries and other items. In the United States, there are more than 3,500 Walmart supercenters.

Three days before the Virginia massacre, a gunman opened fire at a gay bar in Colorado, killing five and wounding 17.

The suspected attacker, a nonbinary person, was apprehended after club attendees tackled and beat them.

This year, 607 mass shootings involving four or more victims have occurred in the United States.
