US President Donald Trump in an interview says that police chokeholds sound “so innocent and so perfect” but suggested he would generally support calls to end their use by US police.
According to BBC reports, Trump said it would be a "very good thing" to ban chokeholds but they may still be needed in some situations.
Trump also says that he did not like the practice of using chokeholds by police and would “generally speaking” support ending it before adding that there were scenarios where the practice could be necessary.
Talking with Fox News on Friday, Trump says, “I think the concept of chokehold sounds so innocent, so perfect.”
“And then you realize if it’s one-on-one. Now, if it’s two-on-one, that’s a little bit of a different story.
An American white police officer killing of George Floyd using the chokeholds has brought subsequent anti-racism protests across the US and after that many police force in the US has banned using chokeholds.
