“COVID-19 has literally hit home,” Bottoms said in a tweet. “I have had NO symptoms and have tested positive,” she tweeted.

Later, in an interview with CNN, she said that she received the news that both she and her husband were positive just before 6 p.m. ET on Monday. She said they decided to get tested because her husband had been sleeping more than normal since last Thursday.

"I'm still in a state of shock because I don't have any idea how we were exposed," she said, noting that she initially thought her husband's symptoms, and her own of a mild headache and dry cough, were due to allergies.”

The mayor is now is reportedly in the running to become the running mate to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
