Washington-  President Donald Trump has formally submitted its withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization, making good on threats over the UN body’s response to the coronavirus, a senator said Tuesday.

President Trump has a formal letter to the United Nations and Congress, withdrawal is effective in one year July 6, 2021, the BBC reported. But Trump’s presumptive Democratic opponent Joe Biden is certain to stop it and stay in the WHO if he defeats Trump in the election.

Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, has confirmed that the United States has started the US pullout and gave its notice.

The conditions set when the United States entered the World Health Organization in 1948, the US has to give a one year notice to pull out, Dujarric said.

Trump accused the United States of trying to reform the WHO, but the WHO did not comply. Of course, Trump, who wanted a comprehensive overhaul of the WHO, sought direct US involvement. But Trump, angered by the WHO’S denial has formally sought to oust the United States.

The United States is the largest financial contributor to the WHO. It has been contributing $400 million annually, which is 15 percent of the WHO’S total budget.

Presumptive Democratic opponent Joe Biden has criticized Trump. “ On my first day as president, I will re-establish the United States as a member of the WHO and re-establish our global leadership,” he tweeted.
