Mexican military and local police have shut down a Christmas fiesta reportedly organised by Sinaloa Cartel members to honor drug lord Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán and his children.

Sinaloa state security chief Cristóbal Castañeda tweeted that security officials were dispatched to the event after images of the holiday bash were shared all over social media onThursday.

Despite policies that forbid mass gatherings in public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the party featured hundreds of piñatas and many live bands on the stage.

Members of the Sinaloa Cartel have allegedly set up a raffle of seven cars, some of which featured the Spanish initials of the criminal group 'CDS' for the Cártel de Sinaloa.

This was a follow up of last December's Christmas event pulled by El Chapo's son, Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán.

All of the vehicles were confiscated by local law enforcement and military. No arrests were made.
