Different governors over the country have signed bills to ban transgender athletes from school sports.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed an anti-transgender athlete bill requiring athletes to compete in school sports according to their sex at birth. He claims that the bill is to protect women's sport for fair competition.

“I signed the bill to preserve women's athletics and ensure fair competition,” he said.

“This legislation responds to damaging federal policies that stand in opposition to the years of progress made under Title IX and I commend members of the General Assembly for their bipartisan work.”

The seemingly problematic ban on transgender is defended as a requirement to save women in sport by those in favor.

Tennessee became the third state to enact the legislation into law this year after Mississippi and Arkansas.
