A former children's commissioner for England Anne Longfield legally challenged the popular social media and video platform TikTok for collecting children's data.

She alleges the firm is "a data collection service that is thinly veiled as a social network" which has "deliberately and successfully deceived parents".

TikTok has been accused of collecting and using children's data without transparency and the required consent required as per the law.

TikTok however has denied the accusations and claimed the case to be meritless.

"Privacy and safety are top priorities for TikTok and we have robust policies, processes, and technologies in place to help protect all users and our teenage users in particular. We believe the claims lack merit and intend to vigorously defend the action," TikTok responded to the lawsuit in a statement.
