China donates health supplies to Ethiopia

The Chinese government sent much-needed medical supplies to Ethiopia on Friday, valued at about 400,000 dollars, to help improve the quality of healthcare services for newborn newborns.

The current shipment of Chinese-donated medical goods is believed to be part of an initiative aimed at enhancing health care quality in Ethiopia's Tigray and Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples (SNNP) regions.

The supplies include continuous positive airway pressure, hand-operated neonate resuscitators, oxygen concentrators, and newborn room equipment, which were acquired by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and sponsored by the China International Development Cooperation Agency.

The medical supplies would augment health care service delivery across selected health facilities, Ethiopia's Minister of Health Lia Taddesse said during the donation occasion.


"The ministry has been working with the Chinese government and UNICEF to improve the quality of neonatal care service in the two zones, and today's supplies will support facilities at five primary hospitals and over sixty health centers and health posts," Ethiopia's health minister stated.

The medical supplies, according to Yang Yichang, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, will assist Ethiopia to achieve its goal of improving healthcare service delivery.

"The ministry has been working with the Chinese government and UNICEF to improve the quality of neonatal care service in the two zones, and today's supplies will support facilities at five primary hospitals and over sixty health centers and health posts," Ethiopia's health minister stated.

The medical supplies, according to Yang Yichang, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, will assist Ethiopia achieve its goal of improving healthcare service delivery.

"I am certain that this initiative will result in significant improvements in maternal and neonatal health services, notably in Tigray and Ethiopia, through capacity building and the provision of health supplies."
