New South Wales State Premier Gladys Berejiklian said announced on Monday that the coronavirus lockdown in the city will not end until the number of cases reaches close to zero.

The lockdown, which was due to end on Friday, might get extended if the number of cases does not fall significantly according to Berejiklian's remarks

During the televised remarks on late Monday, she said the cases dropped to 34 on Monday from 45 on Sunday.

Sydney is under lockdown for more than two weeks after the cases surged in the city following the Delta variant outbreak. Lack of vaccination and unmanaged private quarantines have been blamed for the largest outbreak of the virus in the city in the year 2021.
