Ethiopia describes the United States' sanctions to pressure the government to end the war against the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) as obsolete, according to an official statement released on Monday.

I feel that the US government's sanctions are an outdated form of interaction, especially when nations like Ethiopia are evolving and developing in many ways, according to Billene Seyoum, Foreign Press Secretary for the Prime Minister's Office.

In this vein, Seyoum remarked on Washington's decision to exclude the nation from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a treaty aimed at facilitating and regulating commerce between the US and African countries.

Ethiopia was kicked out of AGOA on January 1, 2022, owing to "concerns about human rights abuses done by the Government and other parties in the extensive conflict in northern Ethiopia," according to the White House.

The suspension of AGOA prompted a slew of complaints and replies, including one from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who accused the US of failing to stand up to the TPLF.

This organization has been accused of human rights violations and has been designated as a terrorist organization by Parliament.
