According to accounts, a bridge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, collapsed early Friday morning, hurting at least ten people.

The wintry fall happened only hours before President Joe Biden was scheduled to speak about infrastructure in the city.

Just before 7 a.m. local time on Friday, the building collapsed in the neighborhood of Forbes and Braddock Avenues.

Wendy Stroh, a neighbor, told KDKA-TV that the sound of the fall was frightening.

"It sounded like a huge snowplow," she said, "pushing along the surface with no snow. I didn't know what it was. ... It was very frightening."

At least ten individuals were hurt in the collapse, Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Darryl Jones informed reporters later Friday morning. Three individuals were sent to hospitals in the region for treatment, however, none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The bridge, which spans Hot Dog Dam Dog Park, was inspected in September, according to Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey (D).

The bridge fall, according to Councilman Corey O'Connor, is not small.

“This is a vital road, artery, in our area,” he said. “This is a road that a lot of use in the east end, going around the tunnel. We’re looking at a couple-year closure here possibly.”

Several cars, including a Port Authority bus, were on the bridge at the time of the collapse, according to the Washington Post.

Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph confirmed to the Post that the bus driver and two passengers were able to escape from the collapse without injury.

“We are extremely thankful that no one from the bus reported any injuries and grateful for the first responders who risked their own lives to save others,” Brandolph told the outlet.
