United States special forces claim to have killed ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi in an airstrike launched in Syria.

Officials in Pentagon claim that the "counter-terrorism" mission was "successful" in a raid on early Thursday.

In the so-called "counter-terrorism" operation, which lasted for a couple of hours 13 people were killed of which six were children and 4 were women.

Pentagon secretary John Kirby said that the American side faced no causalities.

The raid was targeted in the Syrian village of Almateh near the Turkish border.

The scared locals said to reporters that the raid lasted for about two hours and involved explosions, helicopters, and machine guns.

The US has not provided much information about the raids however the first responders at the scene, Syrian Civil Defense, have confirmed the death of 13 including six children.

The witnesses to the scene described it as a large and terrorizing ground assault.

According to the footage and the photos circulated on social media, there was at least one huge explosion in the scene.

US President Biden thanked the US troops in a statement saying that the ISIS leader is no more.
