The cortege carrying the casket of Queen Elizabeth II has departed the royal residence of Balmoral Castle to begin a journey that is due to conclude tonight at 4 pm in Edinburgh.

The casket will remain at Holyroodhouse Palace, her formal residence in Scotland, until Monday, when it will be laid to rest at St Giles' Cathedral.

Ballater is the first settlement it will pass through, where a modest audience has already assembled.

The funeral procession will traverse 280 kilometers (175 miles) during a six-hour trek. Using the A90 and M90, it will travel through Aberdeen, Dundee, and Perth before reaching Scotland's capital city.

The Church of England produced a family prayer to be recited with children earlier today. People who are outraged that it isn't published as if it were written in the 18th century have unsurprisingly reacted negatively to its extremely basic language.
