People magazine names Chris Evans world's sexiest man alive

Chris Evans may have hung up Captain America's shield, but he now wears a new badge of honor: People magazine has crowned him the Sexiest Man Alive.

Monday night, Stephen Colbert's late-night show and the magazine's website announced People's decision. Evans, who played Captain America for nearly a decade in Marvel's expansive superhero flicks, assumes the mantle from another Avenger, Paul Rudd.

"My mother will be overjoyed," he said for the magazine's cover story, which hits newsstands on Friday. She is proud of all my accomplishments, but this is something she can truly boast about.

He is also aware that he will likely be taunted by his closest pals. In an interview, he said, "Really, this will be a point of bullying." "The situation is ideal for harassment."

Co-stars and recent Sexiest Man Alive winners such as Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds, and Chris Hemsworth are sure to heckle him. (Hemsworth, who portrays Thor in the Marvel flicks, was the first Avenger to get this award, which was initially given to Mel Gibson in 1985.)

John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Adam Levine, Richard Gere, Channing Tatum, and David Beckham are among the previous recipients.

Evans, 41, was interviewed by People in a Georgia farmhouse, where he discussed achieving a better work-life balance. "Right now, the most gratifying component of my profession is feeling confident enough to take my foot off the throttle," he remarked.

Evans's first film appearance was in "The New Comers" (2000), and he portrayed the superhero Johnny Storm in two "Fantastic Four" films released in 2005 and 2007. In 2011, however, with the release of "Captain America: The First Avenger," he earned international fame.

Since then, he has portrayed the virtuous superhero in ten Marvel flicks, hanging up his shield after saving the universe in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame."

Evans has become a very bankable star after voicing Buzz Lightyear in Pixar's "Lightyear" and portraying a cruel assassin attempting to murder Ryan Reynolds in Nextflix's "The Gray Man," both of which were released this year.

The actor told People that he is considering marriage and starting a family, stating, "That is something I truly want."

However, he stated that he did not anticipate discussing his personal life in great detail in public. "Some things you want for yourself, or for my family and close friends."

The Boston native also maintains his connection with the 2020-founded civic engagement website A Starting Point.

As Evans plans the next phase of his life and career, he is confident that the People's Choice Award will be a turning point.

Evans stated, "I'll be able to look back and say 'I remember then' when I'm old and sagging." I am fortunate to be participating in any manner.
