Former President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday, hours after his arraignment in a classified documents case in Miami, Florida, that he would run against incumbent President Joe Biden if reelected in 2024.

Trump told supporters in Bedminster, New Jersey, "I will appoint a special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of the United States, Joe Biden, and the entire Biden crime family."

Trump also alluded to unnamed individuals responsible for subverting the nation's elections and borders.

"When I am reelected, and we will be reelected, we have no choice; we will no longer have a country," he said, "I will destroy the deep state."

In addition, he described the charges against him as "the most evil and heinous abuse in the history of our country."

Throughout his speech, his supporters sang "Happy Birthday" to the former president, who turns 77 on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Trump pled not guilty to 37 counts brought by federal prosecutors concerning his alleged retention of classified government records after leaving office.

Last week, a Florida grand jury indicted him, making him the first former US president to face federal charges. Separate state accusations are pending against him for his business dealings in New York.

Trump also attacked Democrats, claiming that the indictment is intended to divert attention away from an alleged bribery conspiracy involving the Biden family.

"They wish to divert attention from the actual espionage and offenses..."Let's go out and indict President Trump so that no one will mention the $5 million bribe," he said.

In addition, he called Special Counsel Jack Smith a "thug" and "psychotic."

Smith, appointed by US Attorney General Merrick Garland in November to conduct an independent federal investigation into Trump's post-presidential retention of classified documents, refuted Trump's claim that the case against him is politically motivated.
